If you have never owned a Scottie before there are a few things you should know about the breed.
Scotties were bred to hunt small game.
The word "terra" the Latin word for Terrier comes from the meaning of Earth, ergo the name of Earth Dog
the other name for a Scottish Terrier and a few other breeds.
A Scottish Terrier dog breed of terrier that originated in Scotland several centuries ago but was not bred
in its present form until the middle of the nineteenth century when it was developed in England and Scotland.
The Scottish terrier is used to ferret out foxes and other small game and is also highly popular as a pet.
The dog has a long skull, slightly rounded at the top; small, almond-shaped eyes, dark brown or nearly
black in color and set wide apart; small, prick ears; a thick, muscular neck; a broad, deep chest; short legs;
and a tail about 7 in long, carried carrot shaped Its coat is about 2 in deep and consists of a dense undercoat
and a hard, wiry outer coat. In color the Scottish terrier is black, iron gray or steel gray, wheaten, or sandy.
The dog is about 10 in high at the shoulder and weighs about 19 pounds to 23 pounds.
Most Scotties are a little stubborn, have a mind of there own and just have a Scottie attitude.
What do I mean by Scottie attitude?
1. Scotties love to dig
2. Scotties are hunters by nature and if allowed to run loose will not come when they are called
because the hunt is more important.
3. Scotties require attention and room to run
4. If left unattended they can become mischievous and dig your flower beds.
5. Although they can be trained very well they also have a mind of there own and don't always mind.
6. If you punish a Scottie heavy handed they never forget or forgive. So it takes a delicate balance.
7. Very important. Scotties can't swim. If they get into a swimming pool they are likely to drown.
(Well of course they can swim a little but they are not very good at it).
Now that I have almost talked you out of buying a Scottish Terrier.
Here is why many people will not have another breed other than a Scottish Terrier.
They are loyal, love there owners and are more dedicated to them than almost any other breed.
They are unlike any other breed of dog, once you understand them they have very wonderful
unique personalities.
Scotties can be very affectionate.
This is where temperance comes in. When Scotties have parents with good temperance and a
