Below are the know Genetic Disorders of the Scottish Terrier .
I just briefly touched on them. You can further research them by typing them into your browser

NEVER BUY A PUP FROM A PET STORE
Many pets at pet stores come from puppy mills
The end result could be many years of unhappiness and large Vet bills
These are the genetic disorders of the Scottish Terrier.
The only test as to date is the VWD or  Von Willebrand's Disease test.

Any responsible breeder has had this test for all of their Scotties with documentation. Do not hesitate to ask for proof of the VWD of the parents on any Scottie pup you purchase

Von Willebrand's Disease –bleeding disorder
Scottie Cramp-- most common–Scottie has  temporarily lost the ability to coordinate his movements.
Cushing's Syndrome ---Cushing's Syndrome is generally caused by a tumor and has no direct evidence of being a genetic disorder. The jury is still out on this one as it may or may not be genetic
Hypothyroidism --an underproduction of hormones by the thyroid gland. May cause the following-- Weight gain , skin allergies, dry or scaling skin and energy loss

Epilepsy -- recurring seizures not usually seen until a dog is mature, usually between three and five years of age.

CMO---inherited disorder characterized by an abnormal growth of the bone of the lower jaw. This can be found in pups as young as six months symptoms are lethargy, fever and unwillingness to eat

Should you think your Scotties has any of these symptoms seek a good Vets help . With the exception of Scottie cramp the rest of these conditions can be lessened with medication

I keep girls from my own lines because I know their backgrounds and have a proven healthy lineage.

Several years back I bought a Scottie boy from another breeder as it turned out he had Scottie Cramp.
Unfortunately we had one litter before we discovered this. We quickly retired him. He had a wonderful personality and made the lady we gave him to very happy.
Scottie Cramp does not hurt the Scottie nevertheless you do not want to pass it along
